A Food Safety Summit is held every year in the United States of America. This year, it was held in Baltimore, Maryland. I am sure every year is equally exciting but something occurred this year that would makes this conference unforgettable. In the most ironic twist of events, an investigation uncovered  the reason for 100 attendees getting sick a week or so after the conclusion of the Summit. And the greatest suspect? Food poisoning.

The Maryland Department of Health received countless reports of diarrhea from the attendees of the Summit. With flooding complaints, it forced the Baltimore City Health Department to begin looking into CentrePlate, the catering service that catered for the Food Safety Summit. From that investigation, they discovered a fault in the ice machine.

The humorously ironic event during the Food Safety Summit has prompted a more serious take to the food safety regulations in the United States. From the information gathered by Food Inc., it has shown a massive decrease in food inspections since 2008. In 1972, 50000 food safety inspections were undertaken as opposed to the mere 9164 taken in 2006.

If you want more information on this event, you can go to the Food Safety Summit Expo and Conference website.
